The Toast 3.5.4 Updater is out. This is the one we discussed here last week. "Starting with version 3.5.4 Toast can create bootable CDs which work with every CD-ROM drive mechanism. The restriction to Apple-branded SCSI CD-ROM drives mentioned in the manual is no longer valid. Toast is fully compatible with HFS ." Joe Schnide wrote: "A guy inside Adaptec said that they worked with Apple and did not reverse engineer this. Apple and Adaptec worked together to solve the issue properly."

The March 1998 version of the Apple Memory Guide is out. It includes the new Macintosh Server G3. In addition, corrections were made to the Performa 578, 630, 636, 635 CD, 630 CD, 637 CD, 638 CD, Quadra 630, Power Macintosh 6100, and the Workgroup Server 6150 information.

USR modem update 3Com USR Robotics has a web page for information on how to upgrade their x2 modems to V.90 ITU 56K standard technology. However, Ramsey French notes that when he answered all of the questions for upgrading, he was taken to a page to download the latest Upgrade Wizard. The Wizard that he got did not work (although others have had success with it). Ramsey found one that did work for him at a USR ftp site.

Update: Matt Denton writes: "The original Wizard was corrupted, according to tech support at USR. It would connect, then immediately drop the line. USR corrected the problem and posted a fix yesterday afternoon."
