Arcade1Up's Simpsons, X-Men hands on: Playing with 2021's new cabinets
Speaker 1: The Simpsons it's finally here. I have waited for this since the beginning. They finally did it. The Simpsons arcade machine is here. I'm at arcade one ups, Miami headquarters to get an exclusive first look at the new machines going on sale this year. And I'm having a bit of a cow man watch out for the suns. There is a lot of button mashing memories going on right now, [00:00:30] and I have no idea what I'm doing, but no different than when I was like 10 years old, right? Since 2018, arcade one up has been taking the classic arcade machine. You remember playing, growing up and bringing them back to life as slightly smaller recreations that you can play in your home. And fans are sure to go wild for the nineties hit game. The Simpsons, I got to play briefly with an early prototype. So this is not the final design, [00:01:00] but the artwork may a mix.
Speaker 1: The machine that came out 30 years ago, it's a Netty beat up game, featuring Marge, Homer, Bart, and Lisa. This Fourplay cabinet is priced at $700 and the price does include some accessories, like a matching stool pre-order details are on arcade. One up.com a blame for people at once. This is gonna be crazy. The machine comes with a light up marque and the speakers are hidden underneath. There's also a riser to [00:01:30] play while standing. I wanna show you the controls here. So it's just like you remember with the placement you had Marge then Homer bar and they even drawn in the old style. Two. Lisa is a game that came out about a year after the Simpson series came out. So everything here is just all over the map and it's kind of why I like it though. So the game begins with smoothers stealing a diamond, and that gets mixed up with Maggie's pacifier.
Speaker 1: [00:02:00] So he kits Maggie and he, you have to fight goons to get Maggie back. Marge uses a vacuum to fight Homer punches. Bart has his skateboard and Lisa is whipping a jump rope to get through all the Springfield madness. No, why I'm being attacked by a giant costume? No, no, I'm still playing. No, no, we're not. We're finishing this. It's wild to come back to a game. You played as a kid, but of course, all [00:02:30] I wanted was to get three other people in on the action around me because, um, I don't have the skills yet to play two characters at once. Right? Let's start over. All right, God, it looks easy. Which brings me to the beauty of a new feature, the live button, the company's latest machines connect to wifi. So you can play online with other Simpsons machine owners. The idea is that you can be matched with a [00:03:00] stranger or connect to a friend, you know, who also has the machine and that live play button is also coming to their other new cabinets, including Xmen just, just wanna win. You win to everybody, win, win for everybody, tornado for you, tornado for your friends.
Speaker 1: Oh, I only have so many times I can do tornado. Okay. The Xmen arcade game originally came out in 1992. You have the mutant heroes teaming up to fight against magni taken down [00:03:30] the sentinels. There you go. There you go. Special meet and power. Know them empowered. Maybe is the only one. Kim better be fast kids. This is the first time arcade. One up has made a four player Marvel arcade cabinet, and it also has a light up marque and matching riser as arcade one up CEO. Scott Backrock explains the mission machines [00:04:00] each year are getting upgraded
Speaker 2: Features over the last three years. We've been able to upgrade our materials significantly. And, and it's, I look at some of those original machines and they were great for what they were, but we have, you know, better wood right now. We have better, uh, screen resolutions. Right now we have faster chips, uh, chip processing right now, better control times faster switches. So it really is a new, an improved machine, you know, and, and that's, I think coming out of, you know, being growing for the last four years,
Speaker 1: Arcade one up has made [00:04:30] various street fighter machines, but this year's new model is a unique design by Capcom called big blue. It's the company's tallest arcade yet.
Speaker 3: Mm
Speaker 1: Mm. First round, no nine going down like this, it packs in 12 games and it will let you compete with other big blue owners online. I still got it. I still got it. Arcade. One up, [00:05:00] came out with teenage ninja turtle game arcade machine, our cabinet already. This is an upgrade that includes live play, and it's themed and decked out to turtles in time. So I can choose the original game and also turtles in time. And for anyone else who also has this machine at home, they could play live with someone else.
Speaker 1: Our K one at machines tend to always include more than one game. So what's the bonus game [00:05:30] for the Simpsons. This roller ball is not part of the main Simpsons arcade game. It has been added to the control board because the machine will come with Simpson bowling. It's another game by Kuna. That'll be a lot of fun. Although I didn't get to personally demo the live feature. I do like the idea of it because playing with others online can surely bring you fun to these systems for repeated playability. And the Ark one up [00:06:00] team is looking into ways of taking online, play to the next level with live voice chat.
Speaker 2: I think that, you know, one of the best parts about some of, um, the particularly the fighting games is the way that you can interact, right voice. Right? So being able to edge somebody in on, and I think as we, as we've started to progress, the closer we can get to a you're in a together place, but you're really not. You're, you're, you're thousands of miles away. The closer we can get to that experience. I think the better off we're gonna be. [00:06:30] And I think you're gonna see, um, some exciting stuff happening about that towards the end of this year.
Speaker 3: Okay. I remember this, you.
