The VL900A is full HD TV, with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 55-inch screen and Toshiba's own Advanced Motion and Resolution (AMR) 400 technology. AMR 400 uses backlight scanning and blinking to eliminate motion blur, ensuring that fast-paced scenes — such as sports and action — are smoothly reproduced.

The VL900A is impressively thin at just 43mm, and light for its screen size, weighing in at 21.5kg without its stand. Toshiba has put a number of impressive features into the TV, including Intel's Wireless DFisplay, or WiDi, as well as Dual Play — a mode in which gamers can use the passive glasses to each get a full-screen display when in a split-screen multiplayer mode.

Toshiba's own web-based content service, Places, is included, allowing access to YouTube, Facebook, Flickr and other similar sites and services. The VL900A includes a smartphone control app, four HDMI ports, two USB ports and USB Extended PVR functionality (requiring an external drive).
