GM wins two Roadshow Shift Awards
Hey everyone Emme Hall I am backstage here at the Roadshow Stage at the Detroit Auto Show.
Where G M has just won not only Driveline of the Year but also Car of the Year for the Chevy Volt.
And I'm here with Mark Ruess he's the president of G M.
Mark congratulations I'm assuming now your like going to Disneyland.
No it was a great day and thank you so much for honoring us.
Our propulsion team, our RND team, our program team and our assembly plant, I know they're sitting there just ear-to-ear grins.
This is a moon shot for us, and I think the eagle has landed.
So it was great.
Well, we're finally seeing the
Involved out in the wild especially out in California, what are your plans to start bringing it out to the rest of America?
Well we're bringing it there first because we've got a lot of demand there, so we're going to try to fill the demand there and then we'll spread it across the United States as we always do.
Will there be any bolted drive lines in future GM products, like maybe an electric Chevy cruise hatchback?
I'm not speculating.
Well we gotta get the diesel out there first, the diesel manual.
And that's what we're working on right now.
So we're gonna launch that.
And then I think the platform that we've got here is really the platform of the future for us.
We've got a lot of autonomous bolts running around in San Francisco.
We've got another fleet in Phoenix, and we're gonna bring a fleet
into Detroit to do the fall weather stuff.
So this is a great platform for us.
This is really our future.
What about any charges for brining a proprietary EV charging system out there?
Well you know we're not working on that right now because you know the range is so darn good.
This is going to be a primary car without a whole lot of charging stations so
We're working on the battery technology to get the range competitive with a regular car and we're really almost there.
In many cases, we are.
So that's where we're focused right now so the charging stations, there's a lot of charging stations happening right now and we're gonna let that happen but we're focused on making a car that can be everybody's primary car.
We love the Bulls but the Jim is that a lot of great products out there so let's let's wich gears just a little bit and see what I did there such thing
By the way it's amazing 3D printed with and I still do it's really good that works
Yeah.
We figured that was good and it makes it standout.
So Ford has just announced that they're gonna bring the Ranger, probably in no part to all of the competition that you guys are laying down with Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon.
But they also said they're gonna bring a Bronco.
So what's your answer to a Bronco?
You know what I want you to say, right?
I know, and I won't say it quite yet.
But you know we reinvigorated the whole midsized truck segment here.
We're bringing a ZR2 in the market right now which is an incredible off-road machine.
And I think you'd appreciate that.
But yeah, no, I can't talk about our future product plans.
But we're going to continue doing things that are very innovative.
That no one else is doing and just hold your breath and take a look as the years roll on.
All right, so I'm gonna keep holding my breath for a Chevy Trail Blazer.
Body on frame SUV, that's gotta happen.
Now you guys have also debuted the GMC Terrain and the Chevy Traverse.
What do these crossovers really mean for GM?
They're so popular here in America, what is that doing for your brand?
It's a big deal for us, cuz that's right in the heartland.
And that's the heart of the market right now.
And the crossover piece of the business is It's just sizzling hot right now.
We've had GM and Chevrolet have led the retail growth in the industry this last year, even with pretty aged portfolios those vehicles, they're very good vehicles.
So we're looking to introduce.
Crossover after crossover here as we refresh that line up and I think it's nothing but growth for us.>> Alright, so we'll look for more GM crossovers.
Mark, thank you so much from taking the time to speak to us.
This is Emmie Hall here at, backseat at Roadshow at the North American International Auto Show.
