Hello all, I'm Seamus Byrne for CNET here at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona.
And we're looking at the Alcatel One Touch range accessory concepts, somethings that will and won't be heading the market this year, but shows some interesting ideas on how to extend your smartphones capability well beyond the main device itself.
Now, one of the Alcatel OneTouch devices
called the Hero, there's already an interesting little set of dots here.
That's actually in a space that you'll be able to connect different accessories to.
A couple of things that they've shown off here were basically one interesting little thing that just clips on like that and it's actually is a case that has a little LED readout on the outside of the case.
So, it is a way to give different kinds of notifications actually directly on this.
Now, this doesn't need its own power.
It is powered through that connection that it's now made with the device.
Another one of the devices with a similar sort of idea here is iQi wireless charging case.
And so this is using the standard wireless charging technology and this is a way of, again, add on a case in exactly the same way, but it gives you wireless charging whenever you just drop it down on a wireless charging pad.
One of their other ideas has been around for a little while now, but this is one of their Bluetooth adaptors to be able to put your
phablet away in your bag.
You don't have to get that out for every single call.
But one of the things that this also can do is remote control.
Your music do remote control if you're playing a video on a screen through Miracast and it actually can generally be a handy extra device, so not just that basic idea only being there to make phone calls as an extra little thing.
Alcatel OneTouch is also getting into the business of wearable wireless tracking devices.
These are completely swappable bands,
a little dongle going here and that lets you do a lot of different tracking.
They said that heart rate tracking won't be on the first generation, but it is something that will probably turn up a little later on.
But again, just another thing that syncs to your device is that nice extinction for what you might already been trying to do on your main phone.
And lastly, there's this very MacBook-looking, all aluminum chassis laptop-typed device, but in fact there is no laptop in this at all.
This is completely an Android-powered laptop kind of device.
You can do completely everything that you wanna do here.
It gives you all your kind of laptop experience, but it just syncs to your phone and there is no local storage.
There is completely everything that's just about driving your Android experience through this device and it's a really good experience.
We've had [unk] little look.
So far, this is an early model, so it's not working all that well, but a really clever design we've seen obviously in the past.
Different companies trying to do this kind of style
a few years back, but this is a nice chassis idea and just keeps it simple by letting you have your full computing experience where everything is driven through your phone, so maybe we are ready for a device like this to actually come back into the market.
Another one of the ideas they've been playing with are e-ink displays, one with the textures a lot like this case and actually it gives you an e-ink front screen so you could say reading a book or just get notifications or say keep a to-do list on the front of your phone.
With that, we're not using any extra power,
but not sure they're gonna bring that one to the market.
They just feel like it still takes a lot more work before they'll get that one really right.
But they also got another e-ink display idea, which a little like a device like this.
It's just about having a completely separate extension device that you could leave in your pocket and that gives you some of those features that we're thinking about in this cover design.
So, there's a lot of different really good accessory ideas around and I think it shows that Alcatel's OneTouch Range, they're definitely looking for what they can do to really
take it to another level in the marketplace out there right now.
