Altec Lansing Expressionist Ultra MX6021
>> David Carnoy: Hi I'm David Carnoy and I'm here with the Altech Lansing Expressionist Ultra PC speakers. As you can see the system comes with a pretty beefy subwoofer. It really is pretty big for a PC speaker system subwoofer so you're gonna have to find a place for the subwoofer. It also comes with 2 satellite speakers as well as a special controller; it looks sort of like a hockey puck. So you can see this sort of chopped up pyramid design carries over from both the subwoofer and the satellite speakers. There's a3 inch mid range driver and a 1 inch tweeter in those satellites. Altech created with a gamers in mind and we did find that it does certainly enhance the gaming experiences. You get some pretty loud explosions if you're playing a first person shooter with this system. It's also good on music. The key thing about these speaker systems is you do need a subwoofer and if you have a big one the system tends to sound pretty good. We also did like that you can adjust the base and treble as well as the volume right from the controller on your desktop and on that control there's a headphone input as well as an audio input so you can jack your iPod or iPhone right into that input or another audio device. There's also another audio input on the back of the subwoofer. About the only drawback is that the cords on the satellite speakers are integrated into the speakers themselves and so you're stuck with the length of the cord that you're given and it may be a little bit short for some people. You lose a little bit of flexibility on speaker placement but if you just have these on a desk around your monitor that's not going to be a big deal. As far as sound goes as I said this does have a big base. It's also a fairly tight base and also there's good clarity from these speakers so all in all a good combination of sound qualities. And while you shouldn't expect the world for $150 this certainly does a good job at that price point. Finishing up we do consider one of the top 2.1 speaker systems at this point. It may not be for everyone again because of the large subwoofer but for people who want to play games or watch movies and listen to music in a dorm room or a bedroom this certainly has some appeal just be forewarned that the subwoofer will rattle the walls a little bit and the floors. [ Background music ] I'm David Carnoy and that's the Altech Lansing Expressionist Ultra PC speaker system.
