How to buy a wireless gaming headset
[MUSIC]
I really like wireless gaming headsets because I can roam all around my house.
I don't have to worry about a cable coming out of my game controller, out of the back of my PC, ripping my laptop Up off the table, so I really like wireless and that's where I start.
They do cost a bit more, unlike your typical pair of earbuds or whatever.
We're talking about $100 to start, maybe as high as $250-$300 if you want a really good set.
First, you've got to ask yourself, are you going to use it on a console, a PC, or both?
Because you can do both on some of these headsets.
How big your head is.
And third, if you wanna have any special features in there.
The two most desirable features in wireless gaming headphones right now, the ones I would really look for, are broad compatibility with mobile phones.
You can plug in a headset jack, or use a bluetooth connection.
The other one I really like is some of them have the ability to mix together two different audio sources at the same Same time, so you can have one of your audio channels in your headset for Discord, where you're talking to your friends and another one for the game and you can control the volume of each of them and balance them.
A lot of these microphones are a bit too low on volume, where they've got a noise cancellation feature which sounds great on paper but in practice, when you talk into the microphone, if you aren't speaking loud enough, it doesn't actually pick it up at all.
[NOISE]
Audio quality is also really subjective.
But some of these headphones, they gravitate more towards the bass, some of them more towards the treble, depending on whether it's supposed to be something to help you hear booming gunshots and explosions in a game, or whether it's more those tiny little footsteps so you can see who's sneaking up behind you.
[MUSIC]
Honestly, it's really hard to figure out how well a pair of headphones is going to fit you without actually trying them on.
Some headphones will have little cutouts in the padding that goes on the side of your head, for glasses.
Some of them have fabric headbands that go around the top of your head and that's how the tension is created.
Other ones, they have torsion on the side of your head, kind of like a little [UNKNOWN] Another thing I look at a lot is where the controls on the headset are placed and how good they feel and if they're easy to find without me looking.
[BLANK_AUDIO]
So if you see one of these three things on the box, don't buy it because of that, lag free wireless, virtual surround sound and mic monitoring.
Bottom line, it's really hard to find a wireless gaming headset that has everything you want And I've been pretty lucky that I've gotten to try all of these different wireless gaming headsets myself.
So, what I really recommend.
If you can go over to a friend's house, try one that they've got lying around.
If you want to read some reviews, maybe on cnet.com, I would recommend that.
But it's not gonna be easy to find the perfect headset for you without some experimenting.
