Matrix has thermal-powered tech that drives smartwatches and more
[MUSIC]
Last year at CES, Matrix Industries introduced the Powerwatch, which is a watch that didn't need to be charged.
It ran on thermal gradients that could use your body heat and wick it off, and be able to use that to generate electricity to measure steps, also measure calories, And just function as a watch.
This year the Matrix PowerWatch X is an upgrade that also has 200 meter water resistance and it can also get phone notifications.
It's another step towards this being more like a smartwatch.
The Matrix Industries also hopes that this thermal gradient technology could be used for other ideas.
Two of them on display here involve beacons and Smart Home and Internet of Things.
One concept uses Bluetooth beacons to use the temperature gradient to measure, in this instance, temperature and humidity.
There are giant aluminum vents at the top that are meant to wick off heat and create the temperature gradient.
And then the Bluetooth beacon activates And it takes a temperature measurement.
In this instance, just with the heat from my thumb.
Another prototype concept here involves a device that sits in an air conditioner vent to create the temperature gradient there, driving another sensor that theoretically could be used in Internet of Things or in a variety of beacons, to send a reading.
Say again, temperature, and if you had a bunch of them throughout a large space, you could create a whole bunch of sensors That wouldn't need any power to run.
Matrix Industries hopes that the idea will go even further but right now the Power Watch X is a watch that will be available soon for about $250.
