Plextor PX-256M2S solid-state drive
-You've got yourself a super fast computer and don't know how to make it even faster?
I have something here you might want to check out.
Hello, my name is Dong Ngo, and this is the Plextor PX-256M2S solid-state drive.
Let's just call it Plextor.
The Plextor shares the same shape, dimension, and port design as any other standard 9.5-mm, 2.5-inch SATA internal hard drive like this one here.
This means, it will work in any application where
hard drives of this form factor are used.
So, yes, you can make a replacement drive for your laptop or your desktop.
Unlike most other SATA drives on the market, the Plextor is the first solid state drive we've ever seen that supports the latest generation of SATA, meaning, it offers the ceiling speed of 6 gigabits per second, which is twice that of most hard drives on the market.
For an internal drive, the Plextor looks extremely good with its shiny aluminum casing.
It's too bad that once installed, the drive
is hidden inside the computer's case.
Like all SSDs, the Plextor has no moving part and, therefore, uses much less energy than traditional hard drives.
It's also much lighter and can handle shock, vibration, and even moisture much better.
This shiny drive also shines when it matters the most--performance.
In our testing, it consistently topped our chart in all categories.
So, what's the catch?
Well, like most (if not all) solid-state drives, it's expensive: $600 for just 256 GB of storage.
That's almost $2.50 for 1 gigabyte compared to a few cents
per gigabyte in the case of traditional hard drives.
For more information on whether or not the Plextor is worth the investment, check out the full review at CNET.com.
Once again, my name is Dong Ngo, and this has been the first look at the Plextor PX-256M2S solid-state drive.
