This Cortana thermostat does more than meets the eye

[MUSIC] Johnson Controls' Glas smart thermostat costs $319. Right away, that's gonna scare some people off, and I don't blame you. But this quirky, see-through thermostat actually has a lot going for it. First, it has a unique, transparent OLED touch screen display that shows off the wall behind it. Or the included bass play if you have a lot of previous holes and old paint you want to cover over. The glass thermostat also has a built in Cortana speaker. Cortana certainly isn't the most popular voice assistant around, but it worked well during my testing responding to basic commands like Cortana set my thermostat to 72 degrees. Fortunately you don't have to be fully invested in Cortana to use voice commands with the glass, It also works with Alexa and Google Assistant as long as you have a compatible speaker handy. And while this thermostat doesn't come with a remote temperature sensor, it does offer up information on air quality in your home as well as the indoor humidity and the weather outside. It also has a basic scheduling function if you do not want to rely on the GLAS's ability to determine. And whether you are home or away automatically. Yes, the glass is expensive. But if you like its interesting see-through design, and that it supports a variety of voice assistants, most notably Cortana, it might just be the right thermostat for you.
