We dropped the Moto Z2 Force like it's hot
The Moto Z2 Force is an Android phone with a screen that promises it won't shatter or crack when you drop it from a height of four or five feet.
So, we did.
[NOISE]
28 times.
[MUSIC]
[MUSIC]
The phone pretty much aced our face down drop test on wooden flooring from three, four, and five feet.
We did get a little bit of a scuff at the edge, and then just a tiny bit at the top here.
But shatter shield technology seems to be holding up, so no major shatters, no major breaks.
That's a good start, but we also wanted to simulate real world accidental drops in places where we've actually fumbled phones ourselves.
On concrete.
[NOISE]
[MUSIC]
It didn't crack but the shutter shield is actually starting to peel away from the side.
On the street while taking a selfie.
[MUSIC]
Okay, yeah screens fine.
Out on a hike.
[MUSIC]
It's picked up some pretty significant scratching on these rocks.
And we see the screen is pretty much scratched up everywhere.
It's still usable.
There are no sharp areas.
And yes, we admit it, even in the bathroom.
For him.
[MUSIC]
My phone, no it's fine.
On ceramic flooring,
Oops.
There are no breaks on this actually, it's looking good.
We dropped it on dirt.
So we have a few more scratches here, and more importantly, we also have a slim line down the side.
We have messed up the screen Below the surface, and on rock.
[MUSIC]
I was pretty sure that jagged rock was gonna do some damage.
We have some gouging on this material here, but the screen didn't shatter.
[MUSIC]
For our final act, we even dropped it from a 30 foot rocky outcropping down onto the hard ground below.
Just to see if it would finally get it.
[MUSIC]
[MUSIC]
It did it.
All right this phone took quite the tumble, but this was drop number 28 so it's been through the ringer.
But the screen did not shatter.
But that doesn't mean that the Z24 screen was completely unscathed.
It's the same dings, scratches, scrapes, gouges and pitting, and even though we basically beat the crap out of it it's screen held up to Motorola's promise.
It didn't crack and it didn't shatter.
Normally after this kind of abuse your screen would have cracks or even missing chunks of glass.
In this case it was usable without endangering fingertips and that's because Motorola shatter shield tech uses what's essentially a hard coat of plastic as the outermost layer, not glass.
[MUSIC]
Shatter shield comes with a four year warranty and a replacement lens should se you back only about 30 bucks.
As we saw the Z2 Force isn't completely impervious to damage.
If even if it takes a nasty nose dive, chances are good you won't blow out the screen.
