The AOC C4008VU8 monitor delivers big color to the big screen

40 inch 16 by 9 displays such as the AOC C4008VU8 tend to be for commercial uses like signage and conference rooms.
Even with it's slight curve the size is a really odd fit for personal use.
It is pretty well designed and easy to set up.
The stand arm comes attached and you just **** the base in with the captive thumb ****.
The connectors are all visible and easy to get to on the back, so at least we can cross one of my pet peeves off the list.
Unless you care how the back looks with everything just hanging out since there's no cable management.
I also like the single control, a joystick which you press to power on an doff and use to navigate the on screen display menu display options.
You can't remap the direct action buttons, however, And the menu is stretched to fit across the bottom, which is odd and annoying.
You can connect it to up to five video sources to display, say in quadrants across the screen or single picture in picture.
And there's a VGA connector for legacy hardware.
Tests confirm it can display over 100% of the colors in the sRGB gamut.
It extends beyond well into the greens and reds.
And about 83% of Adobe RGB, which is more than a typical general purpose monitor.
But like all VA panels, the off-axis viewing looks really washed out.
And because of its size, almost every view is off-axis unless you're sitting way back.
And that's why the inability to raise or lower the display becomes a problem.
You can tilt it a bit forward and slightly backward, but that's all.
If this were a TV, the optimal viewing distance would be over three feet, which doesn't work in a lot of setups.
But it might if you wanna watch 4K UHD video in a tight space, and given its slow input lag, it might make a good console partner as well.
